Lucy is a British trumpeter, a soloist and chamber musician who specialises in performing contemporary music. A regular guest of Ensemble Musikfabrik and Klangforum Wien, she enjoys pushing the boundaries of what a trumpet can sound like. As an ever-curious musician, collaboration is a key part of her work.
Jing Chen is a contemporary music violist based in Germany who specializes in solo and chamber music. Her body of work features solo viola repertoire that deals with extended techniques. A driving force in her projects is to highlight new works through collaborations with international composers and artists.
ViolaTrumpetDovetail Duo
is a contemporary classical music ensemble for innovation and expression led by trumpeter, Lucy Humphris, and violist, Jing Chen. Fascinated by the ability for music to be a meaningful exchange of culture, dialogue, and energy on and off-stage, it aims to carve into unexpected acoustic spaces and present music to new audiences with joy, surprise, and curiosity. Begun in 2026, the duo champions the next generation of contemporary composers and explores deeper ideas of reciprocity between the arts and those who share space inside it.
We are looking for composition collaborators for trumpet and viola in the context of contemporary music and sound design/ travel-friendly electronics for our 2026/2027 program.
